Eleni Heracleous (Scientific Responsible)

Dr Eleni Heracleous is the Scientific Responsible of LEFH’s research group. She is an Assistant Professor at the School of Science and Technology of the International Hellenic University and a Collaborating Researcher in CPERI/LEFH. She has substantial research experience in the development of catalysts and processes for CO and CO2 hydrogenation to methanol and higher alcohols, the selective oxidation of light alkanes to olefins and the conversion of biomass and its intermediates to fuels and high added-value chemicals.

She received her PhD in 2005 from the Chemical Engineering Department of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki on catalyst development for light alkane valorization. From 2005-2008, she worked in the R&D Department of Shell Global Solutions in Hamburg, gaining experience on biofuel product development. Since 2008, she has been collaborating with LEFH in the frame of various national and EU projects with focus on the development, characterization and testing of catalysts for the synthesis of 2nd generation biofuels from syngas and the upgrading of biomass-derived intermediates. She is the author of 7 chapters in collective volumes, 51 publications in high impact refereed journals (>1800 citations excluding self-citations, h-index 24) and over 150 presentations in national and international conferences.
